School memories will be brought back as more than just pictures. It’s a yearbook for students at Le Roy High School this year. For $20 or $23 with music, students will be able to buy a 90-minute videotape that will feature highlights of the school year, complete with graphics and titles and set to music "It's not quite a yearbook. I call it a video memory," said Carol, founder of Video Memories Co. of Indiana. Sophomore to shoot tape Mrs. Winchester will edit and produce the video with tape shot mostly by Craig Spencer, 16, a sophomore at Le Roy High School. "We don't want to compete with the yearbook; we just want to be an enhancement to it," said Mrs. Winchester, who will visit the school a couple of times this year to tape events and work with the students. Craig said he is doing most of the taping. In addition to Le Roy, Mrs. Winchester is producing tapes for the Lowpoint-Washburn and Minonk-Dana-Rutland high schools in this area, as well as two large schools in the Indianapolis area. Le Roy Superintendent Richard Schuler was interested in the project when he was super-intendent of Lowpoint-Washburn.
It's crazy to think that it is already 2017 and 26 years have since passed! Back in the days when the guys all had hair, US minimum wage was only $4.25 per hour, President George H. W. Bush was in office, the threat of the Cold War had ended, The Gulf War started in 1990 leading to Operation Desert Storm and an American victory over the Iraqi’s, the cost of a first-class stamp was 25¢, Nintendo released its 16-bit console, the Super Nintendo, the mullet was not only an acceptable haircut, but it was considered sexy, gas was about a dollar a gallon, The New York Giants beat The Buffalo Bills 20-19 in Tampa for Super Bowl XXV, the cost to use a cell phone was almost a dollar per minute, Johnny Carson announced that he will retire from Tonight Show. 1991 was probably the last time you French-rolled your jeans, and we can't forget about hammer pants! What do you remember about the 1990's??
In 1994, IBM released a cell phone with touch screen and e-mail. It could also send and receive faxes, worked as a pager, and was considered the world’s first smart phone due to its features and capabilities. During the height of its popularity in the 1990's, 50% of the world’s CD's were for AOL. AOL had to spend more than $300 million to give away those free CD's which eventually became obsolete. AOL Instant Messenger launched in 1997 and gained 53 million users in less than 10 years. The voice who announced "You've Got Mail!" whenever you received an e-mail was Elwood Edwards. He recorded the saying in his living room on a cassette deck. Before there were MP3's and online streaming, there were audio cassettes. We can't forget the floppy disk was the be all and end all of file transfer in 90's with a massive capacity of 1.44 MB. The World Wide Web was born in 1992, changing the way we communicate, spend our money, and do business. Who had Beanie Babies? The most desired Beanie Baby was the Princess Diana. The 90's saw the exit of film photography as a dominant form of media. The U.S. spent around $100 billion to prepare for Y2K.
The video features highlights of the year set to music. The video features different athletic teams, as well as dances, Gong show, Madrigal dinner, Randy Bowman's retirement party, senior slave day, the play Grease, prom, graduation, downtown Le Roy Illinois, and much more! I hope all is doing well, and I hope everyone enjoys this vintage trip down memory lane. I wish the video was in HD, but the technology wasn't what it is today! The video quality improves some when you click on the lower corner of the video, and change the quality options. Another great website for vintage Le Roy pictures is... www.xmasjim.com
